Fall Protection

Purpose

  • Establish consistent fall protection procedures across all Syracuse University operations.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Reduce the potential for occupational injuries from falls.
  • Protect the health, safety, and welfare of the University community.

This Program establishes University-wide requirements for:

  • Identification and assessment of fall hazards
  • Implementation of the Hierarchy of Fall Protection Controls
  • Use, inspection, and maintenance of fall protection equipment
  • Mandatory procedures for ladders, aerial lifts, and scaffolds
  • Rescue planning and post-incident protocols
  • Compliance with applicable federal and state regulations

This program applies to all University-owned, leased, or controlled properties and must be adhered to by all employees, supervisors, departments, contractors, and any other persons engaged in activities where fall hazards may exist. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action, cessation of work operations, or removal from University property.
