New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Assemblymember William Magnarelli Announce $3M Investment in JMA Wireless Dome Renovation Project
New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and Assemblymember William Magnarelli today announced a $3 million investment to support and advance the transformative JMA Wireless Dome renovation project. The pair made the announcement during a press conference at the JMA Dome flanked by Syracuse University leaders and several coaches, including Adrian Autry, head men’s basketball coach, Fran Brown, head football coach, Gary Gait, head men’s lacrosse coach, and Felisha Legette-Jack, head women’s basketball coach.

Newly Named Residence Halls to Welcome Students in 2024-25
As part of Syracuse University’s strategic housing plan and in response to student needs and feedback, two new residence halls will open their doors to students in the upcoming 2024-25 academic year. Orange Hall is the new name for the former Sheraton hotel, which is in the midst of its conversion that secures its history as a welcoming and vibrant space newly redesigned to support students. The building, which will contain the University’s sixth all-you-care-to-eat dining center, will house nearly 400 sophomore students beginning in Fall 2024.

Miron Victory Court Construction
Campus Planning, Design and Construction and our local contractors continue the work on the Miron Victory Court addition to the JMA Wireless Dome. To allow for site work at the north end of the addition, the current fenced area needs to be expanded. This will allow for new hardscape in front of Miron Victory Court and Dome gates N, E and P.
The expanded fence footprint will mean that pedestrians can no longer walk west towards the Dome between the Physics Building and the Barnes Center at the Arch. All pedestrian traffic heading west will need to pass north of the Physics Building (the Quad side) or south of the Barnes Center at the Arch (the SUNY ESF side). This closure will remain in effect until mid-August when the area will be opened back up for the fall semester.

2024-25 Parking Rates Announced; No Increase for Students or Employees
Syracuse University has set its parking rates for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Employee parking permit rates will not increase for the upcoming year, nor will parking passes for students.
Consistent with prior years, employee permit rates are determined by each employee’s FY25 base salary.
Notification regarding FY25 permit registration dates will be forthcoming. Faculty, staff and students can apply for their 2024-25 parking passes online or by visiting Parking and Transportation Services at 621 Skytop Road.
Saving the Planet One Refillable Water Bottle at a Time
According to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, scientists estimate there will be more plastics by weight than fish in the ocean by 2050.
World Refill Day, a campaign to reduce plastic waste that was celebrated this past Sunday, is a reminder of the simple ways individuals can transition away from single-use plastics toward more sustainable systems.

’Cuse Collections and Sheraton Hotel Donations Help Support Local Community
The Office of Sustainability Management hosted ’Cuse Collections during the last week of the Spring 2024 semester to provide a convenient location for students to donate unwanted and gently used items before leaving for the summer. The office partnered with local nonprofits and charities to get the donated items into the hands of those in need, helping to reduce dumpster waste while assisting the local community.

Syracuse University 2024-25 Budget to Significantly Expand Student Financial Aid
Syracuse University today announced its 2024-25 budget will include a historic commitment to student financial aid. More than $372 million will be directed to support students of promise—regardless of economic means—through financial aid, grants, scholarships and other assistance. The amount reflects an 8% increase over the prior year.

Single-Use Plastic Reduction Plan Released
In conjunction with the recently updated Climate Action Plan, the University has announced its accompanying Plastic Reduction Plan. As one of the sustainability-related goals committed to by the University, in partnership with the Student Association, the plan outlines how the University will work to drastically reduce the use of single-use plastics by the 2027-28 academic year.

Access to Link Hall Limited Due to Summer Construction
As part of the University’s ongoing Link Hall STEM renewal project that is now entering its third phase, extensive upgrades will be made to the building this summer. Beginning Tuesday, May 14, Campus Planning, Design and Construction (CPDC) will work with a local contractor to complete the upgrades, which will be concentrated on the first floor.
Access to the building will be limited due to work occurring immediately inside building entrances. Signage will be posted at applicable entrances.
