Campus & Community IRS Makes Update to 2020 Form W-4, Employee’s Withholding Certificate

Due to changes to the federal tax law passed in 2018, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has updated the 2020 version of Form W-4. Form W-4 is completed by every Syracuse University employee to determine how much federal income tax is withheld from each paycheck.

The IRS does not require all employees to complete the updated form. It will be used by employees hired after 2019 and can be used by employees that want to make a withholding change after 2019.

Dupli Announces Online Ordering Improvements; Training Sessions Begin this Week

Dupli has just completed a major overhaul to its website in order to improve the ordering process for its customers, and launched its new catalog-ordering platform on Nov. 11, 2019.

Since becoming the University’s primary printing and mailing distribution center in July 2017, Dupli has adjusted and adapted in response to feedback from campus constituents. The newest enhancements to its interface include:

  • A complete redesign of the e-commerce ordering experience
  • Specific templates for postcards, flyers, brochures, booklets and posters
  • A new search feature
  • User-friendly tutorials with screenshots
  • 150th anniversary toolkit
  • Calendars
  • Access to the site outside of University business hours

Syracuse University Launches Historic $1.5 Billion Forever Orange Campaign

Fueled by undeniable momentum and powered by a fiercely passionate Orange community, Syracuse University today announced the launch of a historic $1.5 billion campaign—Forever Orange: The Campaign for Syracuse University. Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance Adds New Youth Program Compliance Coordinator

Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance, a department within Campus Safety and Emergency Services, has hired Sarah Ross Cappella as the youth program compliance coordinator. The position was created as part of the University’s commitment to provide an open and safe campus environment for all, including minors. The protection of minors policy  is intended to ensure the safety of minor participants in on-campus youth programs.

The policy—a key part of the Division of Business, Finance and Administrative Services’ enterprise risk management program—aims to reduce minors’ exposure to reasonably foreseeable risk by training minor program staff and volunteers and identifying all participating minors, staff and volunteers.

SU annual fiscal report shows historic surplus

Expenses increased by 2.3% and revenues increased by 5.4%, leading to a surplus of more than $92 million, according to the report. For the 2017 fiscal year, SU’s operating surplus was $60.2 million, according to the 2017 fiscal report.

Job Fair Brings Together Those Seeking Positions with Opportunities in Food Services, Facilities Services

On Wednesday, July 10, Syracuse University hosted a community-based job event as part of the University’s Building Local initiative. This was the second event focused on fostering local opportunities, partnerships and business relationships. The first was a Procurement Fair held on May 21.

The goal of the event was to match job seekers from local area community job readiness agencies with hiring authorities within the University to fill numerous temporary positions in Food Services and Facilities Services. The agencies represented included: Catholic Charities, The Salvation Army, the Syracuse Rescue Mission, Women’s Opportunity Center, JOBSplus and the New York State Department of Labor.  These agencies provide occupational training programs and were asked to invite their clients with culinary, maintenance or administrative skills. By leveraging the agencies’ existing programs, the University is hoping to meet its upcoming labor needs for the fall semester.

Purchasing Department Announces New Purchasing Policy

The Purchasing Department, a business unit of the Business, Finance and Administrative Services division, has announced the publication of a new Purchasing Policy that went into effect July 1, 2019. The new policy formally establishes bidding thresholds, responsible parties and requirements for purchasing decisions made throughout the University. Additionally, it provides broader procurement decision-making at the departmental level, while establishing the Purchasing Department as the go-to resource for large procurement needs. The new policy also sets the same dollar thresholds for sponsored and non-sponsored funds in an effort to cut down on confusion.

Syracuse University Hosts First-Ever Procurement Fair, Launches Building Local Initiative

On Tuesday, May 21, Syracuse University hosted its first-ever Procurement Fair as part of its new Building Local initiative, a three-pronged effort focused on opportunity, partnerships and business. The fair introduced local business enterprises—including those owned by women, minorities, veterans and others (referred to collectively as XBEs)—to opportunities with the University; helped local businesses and XBEs understand the goods and services used and needed by the University; and provided information on how to gain diverse business certifications.

Representatives from more than 100 Central New York businesses attended the fair, including Melanie Randolph, owner of Your Window to the World, LLC. “Events like [the Procurement Fair] are going to open doors for local businesses and create opportunities with Syracuse University,” says Randolph. “This gives us a more one-to-one relationship, where we can really work as a community and align our values together. The small businesses can come together and be greater together.”

CNY Businesses Hope Syracuse University “Builds Local” When Choosing Goods or Services

More than 160 locally owned business enterprises introduced themselves Tuesday to many departments within Syracuse University who could potentially buy their goods or services in the future.  The “Building Local Procurement Fair” placed a special emphasis on businesses owned by women, minorities and veterans.  VP of Community Engagement Bea Gonzalez says the initiative goes along with other programs the university has supported.

Through the South Side Innovation center and WISE (Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship), this is an opportunity for all the work they’ve been doing over the years to bring their clients into this buy local strategy.”

Syracuse U. to show local businesses how to tap into its $250M in annual spending

Syracuse University will hold a fair tomorrow to show Central New York businesses how to grab a piece of the $250 million to $280 million a year it spends on goods and services.

The university will host its first Building Local Procurement Fair from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday (May 21) in the Regency Ballroom of the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel at 801 University Ave.

Local businesses — and anyone thinking of setting up their own business — will have a chance to meet the people who purchase products and services for SU, Onondaga County’s largest private employer.
