Daktronics, Diversified delivers LED video wall to Syracuse University

To deliver a curved LED video wall for Syracuse University’s Schine Student Center, Daktronics, a video display manufacturer, partnered with Diversified, a technology solutions provider, to design, manufacture and install the school’s new media wall for the 2021 spring semester, according to a press release.

“As the centerpiece of the newly renovated Schine Student Center, the video wall allows us to build community through shared experiences such as campus programming and athletic events,” Christine Scollay, interim director of Syracuse University’s Student Centers and Programming Services, said in the release. “The video board has helped us create a fresh and relevant space for students.”

Newly Renovated Schine Student Center Opens Doors to Campus Community Feb. 8

Transformed by an abundance of natural light, warm Syracuse Orange colors and a new vibrant spirit, the renovated Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center will soon welcome students and the entire campus community to discover its redesigned spaces, make fresh connections and appreciate its abundance of features. The Schine Student Center will officially open its doors on Monday, Feb. 8, the first day of classes for the Spring 2021 semester.

Planned in consultation with, and input from, the campus community, the Schine Student Center offers the feel of a home and hub for student life: a place to study; meet up; eat, in accordance with public health best practices; and recharge. Its environs include a generous amount of gathering spaces, new eateries and accessible features, and a vibrant open central atrium that extends from the top floor to the main floor, with a two-story video wall.

Schine Student Center: Spring 2021 Building Access, Hours and Guidelines

With the transformational renovation of Schine Student Center, students, staff and faculty will have access to many new and upgraded spaces throughout the building. In preparation for the official reopening on Feb. 8, campus community members can learn more about accessing and exploring the student center’s many features on the Student Centers and Programming Services website.

Syracuse University Completes First Phase of Multi-Year, Multimillion-Dollar Stadium Project

The first phase of Syracuse University’s multi-year, $118 million stadium project, unveiled in 2018, was completed this week. This marks a new era for Syracuse University, the Department of Athletics and the many students, faculty, staff and community members who have come to consider “the Loud House” the home of their sports world. Today’s announcement also represents a major milestone for the Campus Framework, a 20-year roadmap designed to align the University’s vision and mission with its physical space and infrastructure.

New Stadium Experience

Someday, fans of Syracuse University sports, music concerts and monster trucks alike will return to a place they’ve been before and will experience something different. Something they’ve never felt when going to a local event in the loud house. Something they typically felt right at the front door. Something missing.

“It’s the rush of air,” says Pete Sala, vice president and chief campus facilities officer overseeing the replacement of the Teflon bubble. The Stadium’s roof is no longer air supported, meaning the structure no longer requires air pressurization. The familiar whoosh of air when one enters the building is now a thing of the past. “One of the things we’ve never done here is to open both big overhead doors at once,” says Sala, referring to the past need to avoid letting too much air out of the building at once.

Seven Months into Renovation, the New Schine Takes Shape

After donning a hard hat and protective eyewear to walk into the Schine Student Center construction zone, the first glimpse into the space is one of impressive vastness. What was once concealed behind brick walls and sectioned off into quadrants is a wide-open floor plan, soon to be filled with new gathering spaces, dining options, and offices for student services and activities.

There is still some time until the renovated Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center opens to the public. Right now, half of the building is still occupied by the University Bookstore and Goldstein Auditorium. The other half has been gutted, from the Panasci Lounge on the third floor all the way down to the loading dock. Demolition of the space is complete, according to Vice President and Chief Campus Facilities Officer Pete Sala. He says that the project’s general contractor, LeChase Construction, hauled away 223 30-yard dumpsters full of construction waste. That’s 1,345 tons of debris, or put another way by Sala, just as much interior demolition as with the Barnes Center at The Arch project.

A New Era at Syracuse University: Barnes Center at The Arch Transforms Health and Wellness

Yesterday, Syracuse University opened the Barnes Center at The Arch, the University’s new state-of-the-art health, wellness and recreation complex. The new facility and the programs that find their home there include many amenities found in other college and university recreation centers, but the facility isn’t what makes the Barnes Center transformational for students.

Recognizing that individual well-being encompasses mind, body and spirit, the Barnes Center offers something different. Its staffing, resources and services go well beyond the scope of a traditional college recreation center. In addition to recreational fitness and personal training, students will find student health clinics, nutritional advice and stress management, meditation resources and mental health counseling in a central location.

Celebrate the Opening of the Barnes Center at The Arch on Friday

This Friday, Sept. 13, history will be made on Syracuse University’s campus with the official opening of the Barnes Center at The Arch, the state-of-the-art health, wellness and recreation complex. Campus community members are encouraged to attend a 3:45 p.m. ceremony and open house to celebrate the University’s commitment to transforming the student experience for generations to come.

Differentiating itself from any other college wellness system, the Barnes Center includes an integrated wellness team delivering student-centered, inclusive care and programs that approach health and wellness holistically, encompassing mind, body, spirit and community.

Health and Counseling Services Open in Barnes Center at The Arch

Beginning today, health and counseling services in the Barnes Center at The Arch are open and operational for student appointments and drop-ins. The pharmacy is also open.

The summer hours for health and counseling services, as well as the pharmacy, are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Crisis services and the Sexual and Relationship Violence Response Team remain available 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, by calling 315.443.8000. A Syracuse University licensed medical provider also remains available for medically related consult after-hours by calling 315.443.8000.

Huge Crane Arrives to Provide a ‘Pick Me Up’ for Stadium Project

You’ll soon see a massive crane take shape on the Syracuse University campus, as a major construction project kicks into high gear. One of the key goals of the Business, Finance and Administrative Services Division this year is to manage all active capital projects, and the project to replace the Stadium roof is starting to make a major impact on the Syracuse University campus.
