Dupli Announces Online Ordering Improvements; Training Sessions Begin this Week

Dupli has just completed a major overhaul to its website in order to improve the ordering process for its customers, and launched its new catalog-ordering platform on Nov. 11, 2019.

Since becoming the University’s primary printing and mailing distribution center in July 2017, Dupli has adjusted and adapted in response to feedback from campus constituents. The newest enhancements to its interface include:

  • A complete redesign of the e-commerce ordering experience
  • Specific templates for postcards, flyers, brochures, booklets and posters
  • A new search feature
  • User-friendly tutorials with screenshots
  • 150th anniversary toolkit
  • Calendars
  • Access to the site outside of University business hours

Syracuse University Launches Historic $1.5 Billion Forever Orange Campaign

Fueled by undeniable momentum and powered by a fiercely passionate Orange community, Syracuse University today announced the launch of a historic $1.5 billion campaign—Forever Orange: The Campaign for Syracuse University. The campaign kicks off as the University celebrates its sesquicentennial, uniting the Orange community as it collectively reflects on 150 years of impact and fearless firsts.

“Syracuse University is at a pivotal moment,” says Chancellor Kent Syverud. “Higher education looks vastly different now than it did at the University’s founding, 150 years ago. Our world is increasingly complex, and the future demands ideas, inventions, actions and individuals equipped to meet these challenges head on. Together, we can achieve our vision, impact lives and improve our world. That’s the Orange way.”

BFAS By the Numbers: Fall 2019

  • 800: The Bookstore distributed 800 reusable tote bags to students to promote sustainability efforts on campus and encourage early textbook orders. The Orange is the New Green campaign launched during the summer to encourage students to forgo plastic bags for reusable shopping bags.
  • 7,643: Students moved in to University housing during Welcome Week
  • 49,738 and 36,874: The total number of meals served by Food Services in dining centers and at catered events, respectively, during Welcome Week 2019
  • 1,345 tons: The total weight of construction debris hauled away from the Schine Student Center during renovations (Put another way: That’s 223 30-yard containers!)
  • 200: The number of participants in Sustainability Management’s South Campus Pilot Composting Program, up from nine last academic year
  • 500: The number of people Auxiliary Services is looking to hire to staff concessions stands at the Dome
  • 10,700: The number of incoming phone calls fielded by the Bursar’s Office during their registration confirmation process (On top of 4,486 incoming emails!)
  • 2,630: The amount of $18 sweatshirts, hoodies, and pants the Bookstore sold on one day, thanks to a Fast Blast sale
  • 50,248: Attendance at the football game vs. Clemson, an announced sellout crowd
  • 38: Different camera views employed by the ABC broadcast during the game, including overhead coverage from the Goodyear blimp

The Orange Family is Ready to Boost the ’Cuse!

Across campus and around the world, members of the Orange family are preparing to Boost the ’Cuse.

The clock starts ticking at 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, as the entire Syracuse University community comes together in a race to beat the goal of 5,000 donors by 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 6. In its third year, Boost the ’Cuse is expanding to 44 hours for Syracuse University—an effort that aims to be as legendary as the number itself.

Housing Review Expands to Encompass Graduate, Post-Traditional Students, Faculty and Staff

In July, Syracuse University announced the beginning of a comprehensive review of its student housing to better understand residential options and determine future needs in support of enriching the student experience.

A committee was formed, with representatives from the Division of Business, Finance and Administrative Services (BFAS), the Office of the Provost and the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience (ESE) for the purpose of assessing the University’s existing housing portfolio to gauge how its residential spaces aligned with the University’s vision, mission and priorities.

The committee met several times over the summer months. Through its engagement with an expansive group of stakeholders— including University leaders, deans and other staff members— the committee’s scope has evolved to include the residential needs of graduate students, post-traditional students and students enrolled in online programs.

SU annual fiscal report shows historic surplus

Expenses increased by 2.3% and revenues increased by 5.4%, leading to a surplus of more than $92 million, according to the report. For the 2017 fiscal year, SU’s operating surplus was $60.2 million, according to the 2017 fiscal report.

A New Era at Syracuse University: Barnes Center at The Arch Transforms Health and Wellness

Yesterday, Syracuse University opened the Barnes Center at The Arch, the University’s new state-of-the-art health, wellness and recreation complex. The new facility and the programs that find their home there include many amenities found in other college and university recreation centers, but the facility isn’t what makes the Barnes Center transformational for students.

Recognizing that individual well-being encompasses mind, body and spirit, the Barnes Center offers something different. Its staffing, resources and services go well beyond the scope of a traditional college recreation center. In addition to recreational fitness and personal training, students will find student health clinics, nutritional advice and stress management, meditation resources and mental health counseling in a central location.

Rahnamay-Azar Shares Expertise at National Conference

Amir Rahnamay-AzarLast week, Syracuse University Senior Vice President for Business, Finance and Administrative Services and Chief Financial Officer Dr. Amir Rahnamay-Azar spoke about his experiences with strategic tuition pricing and energy infrastructure at the annual National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) conference in Austin, Texas.

In addition, Rahnamay-Azar was interviewed by Megan Schneider, NACUBO’s Senior Director for Government Affairs about utilizing public-private partnerships to support energy infrastructure projects with and also participated in the organization’s 2019 Future Business Officers Program. Their conversation will be released as a podcast later in the year. The latter program featured conversations and a networking lunch with chief business officers, with the theme of “Advocate to Elevate: How Business Officers Can Elevate Higher Education Through Advocacy.”

The organization specifically represents chief business and financial officers through advocacy efforts, community service, and professional development activities. The association’s mission is to advance the economic viability, business practices and support for higher education institutions in fulfillment of their missions.

Rahnamay-Azar has been a member of NACUBO for 25 years, and has been asked to speak at the annual conference numerous times throughout his tenure. He’s also shared his expertise on NACUBO webcasts and podcasts, dispensing advice and best practices to members of the organization, which represents more than 1,900 schools and colleges across the country.

“It’s always an honor to be asked to share your successes with your peers,” says Rahnamay-Azar. “This year, I was privileged to have two of my proposals chosen, and to be able to speak about some of the ambitious efforts the BFAS division has undertaken during my tenure at Syracuse.”

Dr. Rahnamay-Azar has nearly 25 years of experience in higher education. Prior to beginning his tenure at Syracuse University in 2017, Dr. Rahnamay-Azar served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Carnegie Mellon University from 2013-16, and as Senior Vice President for Administration and Finance at Georgia Institute of Technology from 2010-13. He spent more than a decade working at the University of Southern California, culminating in his final role as Associate Senior Vice President for Operations.

Faculty and Staff to be Honored for Significant Years of Service on April 12

A total of 157 faculty and staff, including many from the Division of Business, Finance and Administrative Services, will be honored at the One University Awards Ceremony on Friday, April 12, for their significant years of service to Syracuse University.

The annual Faculty and Staff Service Appreciation Reception will be held earlier that afternoon prior to the One University Awards Ceremony. Senior leaders will present 25-year, 30-year, 35-year, 40-year, 45-year and 50-year service pins to faculty and staff from their respective schools, colleges and administrative units that celebrated milestone anniversaries in the 2018 calendar year.
